Advantages: small and attractive, packed with features
Disadvantages: picture quality on camera not that great
My last phone a Nokia 3310 was becoming old and unreliable, and since I had had it for longer than my contract specified I had to have it, I decided it was time for a newer model. But when I then looked around the shops for a replacement phone and did not really find much that I really liked the look of. Being an avid text messeger, my only real want was a phone that could hold more messages than the 10 that my Nokia could hold. Initially I planned to stick to a Nokia since I was pretty pleased with my 3310 for the time that I had it, but then I found myself being more and more drawn towards the Sony Erricson T610. When I looked at all of the pictures of the phone the only apprehension I had was it looked big and I did not want a big bulky phone. But I went ahead and ordered it and waited for it to arrive... and waited and waited.... The reason I waited so long was that I discovered that the phone had been so popular that the manufactorer was having a problem keeping up with the demand for it. Finally though the phone arrived and like a little girl with a new toy I unpacked the phone and without reading the manual that came with it proceeded to set it up, and it did not take long for me to do so. All the menus are straight forward and clear and it has a handy little button to press to go back to where you were if you go to the wrong place. The buttons are small but again I do not find them that small that they hinder you when using the phone. And as for the size it is the sweetest little phone and very attractive to look at, the advertising pictures that I have seen I feel do the phone no real justice for what it really looks like in the metal. I have to admit that I do not get on too well with the built in Camera on the phone, it is simple enough to use on the grounds that all you need to do is click a button on the side of
the phone and hey presto picture taken. But I find that the picture quality is not so good. But since my primary use for the phone is the text messages, I see the camera as a little fun bonus and the lack of quality of the picture is nothing that bothers me personally. The calander feature is a really handy and straight forward to use, you just put in date and time and place set a reminder time, and the phone rings at your chosen time before hand to remind you and flashes up on the front of the phone any comments you have written. There is also the ability to write notes and store them on the phone to view later. There is a Wap facility and an email facility which so far I have not used or investigated yet but I believe that on occasions when I need to travel away that this function will then become quite useful to me, but since I have not tried it out fully yet I can not pass an opinion on it. The polyphonic ringtones is a great function to have and so straightforward to transfer the tones via the bluetooth function, there is also a music dj that I tried out for fun and was so pleased with my result I kept the first tune I made and used it as a ringtone. The contact list is another great feature worth mentioning, instead of listing for example mum home and then mum mobile, I can actually just have mum and list her numbers and contacts in one place and even store her email address in with her home mobile and work number, The ability to set personal ring tones for individual people is a good fun function and great when you hear the phone ring and you automatically know who it is ringing always puts a smile on my face since before I have even looked at the phone I know who it is. Another great feature is that when a text message comes through it automatically comes on the front of the screen message from "person" do you want to read now? if you choose yes the message comes up if you choose no then the message is stored for y
ou to read later. I am sure there are lots of features to this phone that I have missed to mention but the ones I have mentioned are the ones that I have discovered so far without reading the manual. Overall my impression on the phone is a positive one, it serves all the functions I wanted in a phone and then some.
