Advantages: Can change the covers, In-built camera

Disadvantages: Functionality, Size

I felt like a bit of a change. Flip phones had started to come out with all the features that the normal ones had ? changeable covers, cameras, everything. So I decided it was time for some change and traded in my sturdy reliable Nokia 7210, with which I have shared many good times, in exchange for something a little more upbeat and different. I chose the Sony Ericsson Z600 because it was a flip phone, which I had never had before, because it had a camera built in and because you could change the covers, which all seemed pretty cool, but also because I had been waiting for a long time to get my hands on a Z1010 video phone and had given up waiting. Until that time I had stuck to Nokia through and through because of their ease of use and reliability. Even now I stick by that.

This Sony Ericsson, their first flip phone since merging looked stylish on all the websites I checked, but it?s not until you hold it that you realise what a hige brick it actually is. I was looking for something compact to match the evolving technology ? but I ended up with exactly the opposite.

Secondly is the functionality. Don?t get me wrong, the stuff it?s got on it is great ? excellent quality camera, bluetooth, the whole lot,, but if you?re looking for a phone that?s easy on the brain look somewhere else.

Comparing it to my past Nokias, it takes 3 times more button pushes to get to some standard functions, like actually sending a txt message and the organisation of the features is just weird. For example if you want to add a picture to a contact you cant go onto your contacts and pick the one you want to add the picture too, instead you have to go to pictures and click ?add contact?. It may be me being a bit too picky, but it becomes very infuriating after a time.

Another thing you notice after a bit is the seeming pointlessness of some of the buttons. They can remain dormant for the years you have the phone because they are absolutely point
less.

On the plus side, it is quite nice to be able to change the covers, and they do have quite a stylish range. Also there are a whole host of themes, games and pictures which you can download via GPRS onto the phone from the Sony Ericsson site for free.

But overall if you?re contemplating changing to one of these I would say stick to Nokia for now.
