Advantages: Stylish, easy to use, all the gadgets you could want
Disadvantages: Little bulky but to be expected for all it does
Having just been eligible for an upgrade, I chose the G1 phone after recommendations by a family member. Receiving the phone a few days later, I eagerly opened the box like a kid opening a Christmas present. Even the box had a sleek, modern feel to it, with various compartments folding open to reveal the accessories.
Considering that I'v been a Nokia user for the past 5 years, I was a bit nervous that I would find the G1 hard to use - my mind cannot figure out Samsungs, no matter how hard I try - but the interface is userfriendly and self-explanatory. I quickly managed to customise my background, ringtone, message alert and even the phone itself, thanks to the included stickers (they thought of us girly girls with those pink butterfly stickers!)
While I'm still learning the ropes, I've found the G1 fantastic so far. The touchscreen makes things fast and fun, I've wasted plenty of time showing off how I can 'slide' through my contact list! And who can fault the idea of having the internet absolutely everywhere (well, almost) - no more wracking your brains in the supermarket trying to remember whether you've got every single ingredient for tonight's dinner, you can now Google it to make sure!
The only downsides I've experienced so far is that the size makes it a little awkward for little hands - I've sat there frustratedly pushing the menu button several times, only to realise the reason it wasn't working is because the way I was holding it resulted in a stray finger touching the top of the screen. The other issue would be the battery power, having nearly drained itself in first 24 hours, but plenty of people have published articles online on reducing this issue and my G1 has now gone a few days without needing a boost.
I'm not sure I would have gone out and spent the money on such a newfangled phone but for a free upgrade I definately can't complain, the G1 ticks all boxes.
Summary: Easy to use, snazzy phone
