At the age of 6 my son was put out that his big sister had a mobile phone yet he didn't. Christmas was coming up and I knew that it would make a fabulous Xmas present for him. However, I was under no illusion that he would never actually use it, other than to text his sister from the next room! I therefore set out to find the cheapest mobile phone possible and came across this one. Wow! £9.99 from Argos!(currently reduced to £7.99 would you believe!) I still can't get over the fact that you can buy a mobile phone for this amount of money. It was mandatory to buy £10 of airtime at the same time as the phone, though this didn't matter as I eas right in my thinking - the novelty had worn off before he had used up the £10 of airtime.
However it made a great Christmas present which he was delighted with - I'm not sure that a toddler's toy phone would cost much less than that!
The handset is small, slim and light, ideal for any situation. It has quite a large display screen in comparison to the rest of the phone and number/letter keys below for calls and texts. It is silver and black in colour so it actually looks quite cool and trendy too!
Although not used terribly often for phone calls, I have never noticed any problem with the signal strength or reception. Calls have always sounded perfectly clear and contact has always been made on the first attempt. When fully charged the phone lasts about 2 days before needing to be re-charged which is pretty good going.
The phone has travelled round with him in pockets, nestled at the bottom of bags and been dropped down the stairs and on the floor countless times - and it still works. In fact, it still appears to be scratch free which is amazing.
There is no denying that the mobile is a simple handset, but for this price what can be expected. Saying that though, other than the obvious calls and texts, there is also a built in camera in the phone. The picture quality is not award winning but the fact that it works and is simple to use is surely enough for this price. There are also the usual features available that would be expected from a mobile: clock, alarm, calculator, convertor and even a couple of in-built games.
To conclude, this phone is absolutely ideal as either a child's first mobile phone, a phone that is simply required for calls and texts or even a secondary phone to take places)such as holidays) where perhaps you wouldn't want to risk a more expensive handset.
What a bargain!
this phone is great for a child, or someone who hasn't had a phone before, its is a good simple phone, for keeping in touch with family members or friends etc, you can store, photos and music on phone, it is cheap and a fantastic value for money, this was a phone i used for a couple months, although it doesn't have internet/web and Bluetooth, but the camera and light is a bonus. the large buttons make it easier to text. It includes an alarm system, calendar, calculator and stopwatch. You also have the ability to set pre-determined 'power' times, so you can tell your phone to automatically switch off at night and back on again in the morning. It's a very simple feature, but useful nonetheless. There's also no data cable included in the box, which means getting music and photos onto your phone is harder than it should be.
My Samsung mobile died on me, it was a very painful experience, and after my mourning period of oooohhhhh about 1 hour, I dragged myself off to my local Sainsbury's just to get a cheap little phone to keep me going until I could invest in something better.
TADAAAAAAA.................may I present to you the T-mobile ZTE Zest (E110) phone.
I was attracted by this phone due to the price, it was only £14.99, however, had just been reduced to £9.99, so price wise was a winner, as, really did need something very cheap to keep me going for now.
The fact it also had a built in camera was a must, having got so used to using one, and this phone also has a VGA camera built in.
Other functions it has is MP3 player and FM radio (headests are included in box) , it has 1 pre-installed game called copter, and basic funtions as you would expect on a phone to enable you to text, phonebook, calendar, alarm, calculator etc.
****** The phone in Use *******
Firstly, this is quite a plastic phone, suppose only to be expected as I paid less than £10 for it, but, you can tell it is a cheap phone.
My primary uses for a phone would be texting, with calls coming second. Very simple to use for texting and also answering or making calls, however, once calls or texts are done, you have to keep hitting the back button to get back onto main screen, and, the pages do not load up very quickly, I can find myself having finished a few words before predictive text has displayed them on screen, and also annoying if trying to lock to put into my bag, as the lock page also takes a while to load up.
I really wanted a camera, as I often would see things and send pictures to friends, the camera again is quite slow to get onto page and to take pictures, however, once taken pictures do look clear and of decent quality. Unfortunately, there is no option to send a picture to any contacts, which I found very unusual, seems the only use is to take pictures and just add them to computer, I have not actually bothered doing this as it did not really fit the purpose I wanted it for. (however, there are also no cables provided with phone, so only way may be to add photo's to a card and use a card reader? unsure as, like I say, I never used it)
I have never used the MP3 player, but have tried out the FM radio, easy to use and tune in, but, I did find that after a couple of minutes the sound became a little distorted, so have not used these for a long period of time, more as a tester really.
******* Overview ********
As an overview on this phone, I would say as a beginner or first phone, perhaps so you can keep tabs on kids , then this is fine as very inexpensive, however, if you are used to mobiles then this would get you really frustrated purely by how basic it is and how slow it can seem to load each page. It is working as a stop gap phone, but newer phone on it's way and I cannot wait to say goodbye to my 'help me out of a rut' phone.
****** Rating *******
This was only ever a basic phone, and probably does exactly what you would expect. I am giving it 3 stars as an average score because of slowness, cheap feel, and basically, what is the point of a mobile phone camera if you cannot text them to people?
