This was one of those products I bought in desperation. I had left my mains charger for my Nokia at my parents house, the phone was about to die and I was about to set off on a long journey. I picked up this universal car charger for £6 at Argos. The fact that it fits 6 different types of phone (LG, Nokia, Sony, Samsung and mini and micro USB) was a real bonus as friends and family can use it whenever they are in the car. It is simply a case of pulling off the current attachment and pushing on the attachment that suits your phone. It is all very simple to do and the charger has a red LED on it to indicate when it is charging.
There are a couple of things to be wary of...I use it with my Nokia N95 and find that while it will charge the phone it is somewhat slower than charging from the mains. If I am running the sat nav software on my phone and talking (using the blue tooth headset) at the same time, then the charger cannot charge the phone faster than I am using up the power and the battery will die. Also the connector is quite loose when you put it in the phone. This is fine when you lie down the phone but it can be difficult to charge it and hold it to your ear at the same time as the lead will keep dropping out (given that it is a car charger and you aren't supposed to talk and drive at the same time this should not be too much of a problem). Another minor annoyance is that the main section of charger is wider than other other devices that go into your car cigarette lighter. This is not a problem in my car but in some cars it makes it very difficult to plug it in.
I'm terrible at remembering to charge my phone and I can almost guarantee that I'll hear that terrifying 'your battery's almost dead' noise at some point between home and work (why does it never run out of battery at home?) meaning I'm out of contact for the rest of the day. Someone came to my rescue however and purchased this universal in-car charger for me - lifesaver!
The charger comes in the standard charger format - bulky fitting one end that plugs into your car's cigarette lighter complete with a length of wire and smaller fitting on the other end to plug into your phone. The beauty of this particular charger is that there are mutiple fittings meaning that it will charge my current Nokia 5800 and in all probability will also charge whatever mobile I choose next. It's also great for my friends when they're in the car as they can also charge their mobiles. I haven't had anyone ask to use it only to find their isn't a fitting for their phone so from this I assume that fittings for most modern mobiles are included. The length of the wire is reasonable but not extensive. I don't have a mobile phone holder but those who do should find that they have sufficient cable to have the mobile in the cradle and charging at the same time. the charger feels of reasonable quality, not flimsy, which reassures me that it should last a good length of time.
My only gripe is that the bit that plugs into the cigarette lighter is bulky and sticks out quite far from the centre console. Probably not an issue in most cars but my cigarette lighter is in an odd place and it causes me grieg occasionally. Not a major issue and more of a general in-car charger problem than a problem specific to this product as most I've seen are about the same size.
Great purchase that I should have bought sooner. With many vehicles being manufactured sans cigarette lighter though I just hope I'll be able to use it in my next car!
At one point, not so long ago, I was flitting between using a few different phones, as mine had broken and I was biding my time until my contract allowed me to get a brand spanking new upgrade. I borrowed off friends, who often had phones without their chargers that they weren't fussed about any more. I know what it's like - you keep hold of an old phone but mislay the charger, lost into the abyss of limbo that houses pens.
My problem was obviously that I had the chance of using various different phones, but none of them were charged, and I didn't want to go and get chargers for every single one of them. This Universal In Car Charger was an ideal option to get them charged, and I was surprised I hadn't thought of getting one before. It costs less than £10 if you shop around, and is incredibly easy to use.
There is a bulky charger unit to it which slots into the cigarette lighter in your car, and then a coiled wire leading to the connector at the end. This has a detachable connection on the end that then converts to a number of different, tiny specific connection units. Naturally, it doesn't cope with every single charging connection you may come across as there are so many and also new ones keep being made - however if you have a car and want an easy way to charge your phone this is absolutely ideal.
What I find I do is have this in my car all the time, as it fits snugly into the ashtray part of the car. I don't smoke, so this is a defunct part of the car, so I may as well put it to some use. Once plugged in, a red light comes on on the main charging unit part of the device. The phone will charge whether the car is on or off, so I don't tempt fate by leaving it on charge - I've suffered enough flat batteries before to not even bother trying this one. It may not drain it of any charge at all, but I'm not going to take that chance - you never know.
The little bag of connectors is small enough to fit behind the charging unit while storing, and when you take it out to use you can leave the bag in there. I find I now tend to keep the same charger connected as I have a new phone, but it's so handy for charging. Each morning on the way to work I plug it in before I leave and when I get to work it's had a good charge. I do the same on the way home. This means I rarely have to worry about my phone not being charged. I do have regular charging units at home should I need them if I don't go out in the car for a while, but I rarely have to use them.
The only negative I would have is that sometimes it can be a little fiddly, but this is by no means anything to knock the quality of the product and is something to be expected from something so useful with small connections. I'd highly recommend getting one. As yet, I have had no issues with it and have had it a few years. Highly recommended.
In todays age, the average person will have a vast range of electrical devices, and the likelihood they will all have a charger of some sort. Now, the companies who manufacture these devices still have considered making a universal charger that will fit the most popular of electronics, such as an I-Pod, mobile phone, sat nav ect. So we end up having 10 different cables for them.
I get especially annoyed when they don't provide you an in car charger, I mean the price you pay for some of these gadgets you should really have one included. Ok rant over. At least there is a manufacture that came up with a universal charging device for a car. This little gadget, allows you to plug it into your car and charge your mobile phone of the go, just in case you forgot to do it before you left the house, which we have all done at some point.
There are many different variety's of this gadget, but the Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger is great. It comes with an array of connection ends, that will fit 90% of the mobile phones on the market, so you wont have to buy a new one when you change your mobile, just an added bonus.
I bought mine off Amazon for just £6.32, a complete bargain I thought, and it isn't just Amazon that are providing the charger for such a low price. I have seen them advertised in the Argos catolgue for roughly the same price. This is of course in addition to the one's that you will be able to buy in all mobile phone specialist outlets, but lets face it, they will be pretty much double the price.
I would definitely recommend buying this item, it is perfect for when you are on the move. If I had to give a downside, I would have to say that it is rather slow at charging phone, maybe that is just me, but it is good enough for being out of the house for a couple of hours, then you can charge fully anyway. Overall a terrific product.
I purchased this charger about 3 months ago after being impressed with my friends. Since then it has came in very useful, i am forever forgetting to charge my phone over night so it really comes in handy when my battery is low. I mainly use it to charge my nokia although some of my friends have used it for other brands.
It does work quite well, however i find that it is not as efficient at charging my phone as my actual charger. Although the phone (in my case a nokia 5800) will say that it has 5 bars of charge, it will seem to not last as long as when charged with my wall adapter.
So although it hasn't replaced my normal charger, and i don't think it will. I do find that it comes in useful and i would definitely purchase another if mine were to go missing or to break.
Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger
Description: Brand: Argos / Type: Cellular phone charger for car.
You can currently purchase this item for just under £8 on Amazon so it could be something useful to spend those Dooyoo Amazon miles on. You can also buy it from Argos for just £5.99.
I am one of those people who is always forgetting to charge my mobile phone and as a result, it runs out and I find myself unable to use it when I want to. This product is an excellent idea because it is universal (the product is compatible with Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, USB mini and USB micro handsets) and therefore works with most makes of mobile including my Nokia. My partner has a Sony Ericsson and this charger works with his phone too so we are able to share it. Ironically, it actually cost me less than Nokia wanted me to pay for a car charger too!
The charger is very easy to use as it just plugs into your cars cigarette lighter. It has a coiled cable which prevents it getting tangled up and although it isn't as fast at charging my phone as the charger that came with it, it works quite quickly so is handy to keep, even just for emergency purposes. Since buying mine, I have actually purchased another of these for my parents car because I was so pleased with it.
Overall, this product is handy to have and a decent way to ensure that your phone doesn't go dead while you are out and about. It could also be a handy stand by if anything happens to your phone charger to allow you to keep using your phone while you wait for a replacement. Decent value for money too!
I never thought to look for a product like this until I was leafing through the Argos catalogue and found it, so often when upgrading my phone I have ended up having to but a new in car charger for it however with this multi purpose kit those days are over, or at least I hope they are.
It costs less than a tenner, I think I paid £6.99 for it but I may be wrong, either way it was not a lot.
It comes with a large variety of adapters (6 in all) so that it can fit a number of phone makes and models, certainly it has the right attachment for a Samsung Jet and it also fits the other halfs Nokia as well and a friends Blackberry.
It is not the most robust of products and I am very careful when fitting it and removing it from the socket in my car as it is plastic and does not look like it would cope with too many knocks and bangs. The lead does expand as it is one of those spiral things which is quite tightly coiled but it has enough range for the phone to be able to sit in a phone holder and thus you can still operate hands free once it is on charge.
This is a useful product and certainly can work out cheaper than buying a new branded one every time you change phones.
I've just been looking at the boot sale and bought this bargain for £1 it's a Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger which is a present for my husband as he's always got his mobile with him and likes to charge it on long journeys due to him driving a lot and forgetting to charge his mobile at home before he sets off anywhere.
Ths can be bought at Argos for £5.99 so I got a real bargain today. The charger has lots of attachements for charging up different mobile phones. Each attachment pulls on and off the end of the charger and the other end fits snuggly into the cigerette lighter socket of your car.
It has six different charger attachments and these are for Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, USB mini and USB micro handsets. I have a Sony Ericsson mobile and my husband prefers Nokia mobiles so this charger is good for us both to use in the car.
You just plug the end into the cigerette lighter socket, add the attachment thats compatable with your mobile and plug in your mobile at the bottom or side depending on where you add your charger and it charges your mobile as your driving along.
It is good for small journeys for a little charge or on long journeys you can fully charge your mobile. It has a red light indicator so you know it's working properly and charging your mobile as you go along. Although it's not as fast at charging your mobile up as being plugged into the mains, it's a handy gadget to own and if you shop around you can find it on market stalls or bootsales cheaper than at the retail shops or online.
I wouldn't recommend buying a second hand one as new alwys is the best when it comes to gadgets that are cheap to buy.
This has saved me worrying about my husband going off on a work journey and not being able to get in touch as his mobile isn't fully chatrged, so now we can keep in touch whilst he's away. I'm happy and so is he.
A good purchase for today and a useful one.
I often had the problem that my phone was running out of charge while I was in the car. Mobile phones don't seem to hold a charge for very long these days. So I went down to argos and picked up their universal charger for just £8. The mobile charger works with a variety of phones with its different attachments. So far I have used it on a sony ericsson x1 and a samsung monte. The charge time seems to be a bit longer than if they were plugged into a mains socket.
The unit is small and compact and doesn't get in the way of the gear stick while driving. Its also compact enough that you can easily store the charger and its attachments in a pretty small area. The coiled wire is stretchy enough so that you can can use your phone in a hands free cradle while charging. For the price it is brilliant and will more than likely work with future phones so it is a good investment.
When I suggested my Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger as a product here it, it was because the product is something that can be used with a variety of phones. Which I think is rather handy to have. I have had the charger in use with 2 previous phones and it has worked well for me.
For some reason the link under the product takes you to a Motorola charger, but this is not the one I will be talking about. The picture supplied here is the one I suggested and is in fact the charger that I will discuss, that you can use with a number of well known brands of mobile phone.
My Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger cost me just £5.99 which for something that you may be able to use with more than one of your phones is very good value. When I was looking for something to replace a previous in car charger I had, I came across this which happily worked for me. It can still be purchased at Argos and also from other online retailers.
The set you get can be used to charge up a number of phones. At a cost of £5.99 I feel this is very good value, as many branded chargers can be at least £15 plus to replace. Its always handy to have a charger to use when out and about as you never know when you may need to make a call and this one has plenty to offer.
Good points of note about the Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger are that it has a variety of attachments which allow you to use it with more than just 1 phone brand or type. I have used this with Nokia and Samsung phones, but it can also cope with Sony Ericsson and LG phones as well as others. It works with both USB mini and also USB micro connectors.
With the Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger I got a set of 6 mini connectors which can be swapped around to fit to your phone type. This means that the phone charger is very versatile and can even be used with some of the older phones we still have around the home. This was very helpful.
The main body of the phone charger is light and easy to transport and use. It will fit into the cigarette lighter point of your car and it also fits the similar points in newer vehicles too. Its easy to push into place when in use and fits snug and secure so that it wont slip out when charging.
Once you have picked the correct adaptor to fit your phone and plugged everything in, the phone charger will kick in once you start your car engine up. This means you can always be safe in the knowledge that you have a simple but effective power supply for your phone when out and about.
The lead that comes from the charger to your phone is one of the spiral piggys tail types, but its not so long that it gets in the way of the gear stick when driving. I have found the length of cable was more then adequate to allow for safe charging.
I wouldn't say that the Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger is the fastest charger you will ever use, but that is something I have come to expect from these types of on the go products. I don't feel its a fault with the product at all and is perhaps more to do with the limitations of the situation where you use it, as in being a car based product.
The Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger will let you know its working by way of the small red LED light that comes on when its in use. This is a simple but handy feature which is nice to have, but I used to always check the phone too, to make sure I had placed the connecters in well enough.
To rate the Universal Mobile Phone In Car Charger I feel it ought to get 4 stars. Its cheap to buy and can be used with a good number of phones according to the makers. It has a variety of fittings to allow for use and its also light and easy to store when not needed. Its worth considering as a bargain bucket replacement for more expensive branded varieties.
