Advantages: Great Fun to Build!

This was the first Tamiya motorbike kit I made and, looking back on it now, it looks shabby compared to the one's I've built since. This, however, is due to poor craftsmanship rather than the kit as this is a quality model!

I chose to do this model as the Suzuki Hayabusa is one of my favourite bikes. I also chose to do this in my favourite colours for the bike, gold and silver!

The kit is quite complex and comprises several pre-formed plastic sheets, with the parts attached. The modeller needs to snap or cut off the appropriate part, file down the edges (for a more perfect finish and better join) and glue together.

As with my reviews for the other Tamiya kits (Yamaha R1 and Ducati Desmosedici), I would say that this would be more suitable for older more experienced modellers due to the complexity of some parts and the patience required!

The model starts with the assembly of the engine, then you move onto the chassis, the suspension, wheels and finally the fairing! Transfers are the last part, and you can choose from several arrangements depending on your chosen colour scheme for the bike.

I really enjoyed making this model; so much that I am considering buying another one so I can do a 'proper' job this time in a different colour scheme!

Prices vary, but they seem to mostly be between £20 and £25 (although you'll also need to budget for your glue and paint!).
