... good thing!... However the device is equal to PCI-modems - i.e. gets CPU resources, sometimes it works quite weird: hangs-up, sometimes No Connection status, etc., - but it shows real 45Kbps !!! USRobotics Sportster 56K Message modem ... have been using this model since the year 2000 or 2001 (I cannot remember). It has been faithful until today 30th April 2007. If I had to buy it again I would. The only problem I had was the BVRP software that came with it; not very stable. I have been sending and receiving fax documents with speeds up to 36 kb/s. Elsa Microlink 56k Fun USB ... bought the Microlink 56K Fun USB modem from Simply.co.uk for only about £15! Well, I wish I'd not wasted my time and now I have the hassle of returning it. I plugged it in to a modern spec PC running Windows 2000. As expected it was immediately detected. I'm fairly IT literate and went through the process with the install CD. But Windows couldn't get all it needed off the CD. I tried various different approaches but to no avail. So I went to Elsa.com and downloaded the correct drivers. It didn't make the slightest difference. I actually bought a £40 Tornado 565 external modem from Maplin which I'd planned to return once the Microlink had arr... Diamond Supraexpress 56i ... I don't know that much about modems, I've only ever had a few. As long as they dial up to the Internet for me then I'm happy. But a while ago the unbranded K56flex modem I was using really was starting to get a bit past it. To cap it all off it was an old ISA card anyway. Not knowing much about the different makes, models etc of modems I just ordered one of the cheapest ones, the Diamond Supra Express 56i Pro, and oh baby I'm impressed. The first thing I noticed was my dial up speed was higher. Now I ALWAYS connect at 49.2 kbps, which gives me a maximum download speed of around 5.2k/s depending on network traffic and the server I'm downlo...
