... ModemBlaster. i would have preferred a PCI card, but ISA was all that was in stock. he said i could buy it for now and exchange it when the PCIs came in in about a week (he's good that way). i never went back. this modem is *sweet*! never, ever have i had disconnects or dead pipes in the year-plus i've owned it. i did have to do some jiggery-pokery with updating drivers, but that's because my then-ISP was Kflex and my new ISP was v90. it's rock-steady, never acts up. it also came with Cheyenne Bitware, ...more

Creative Modem Blaster V90: A speedy performer (513 words)

Yes, I know the title is probably some kind of paradox, a speedy modem.. is there such a thing! Well as far as modems go this is up there with the very best. I get connections of 48,000 bps with this modem using my ISP which is BT Internet (Surftime package). For people not well versed in modem speak, bps is the speed at which you connect. The theoretical maximum you can obtain whilst using a 56k modem is 56,000. Though that is very theoretical in the real world allowing for phone line quality etc, 51,000 bps is around the maximum that you could hope for, all things being perfect. My phone line is of acceptable quality and thus goes at ...  Read the complete review

Reasonable Modem Hard to instal! (185 words)

I spend quite alot of time building PC's for friends and neighbours and to date have tried quite a few brands of 56K V90 modems. I am currently using an internal Creative Labs V90, and as far as performance goes it is as godd as any other modem from the low cost end of the market. If you are not a PC whizz then you may encounter a few problems with installation. On a few of Creative installation disks I have used I have came across problems getting the disk to run. I found that the only way to run the CD was to search through the file structure and locate the installation exe manually. This was no the only problems I had, It could ...  Read the complete review

Creative Modem Blaster V90: Cheap and Chearful (104 words)

This i one of the cheapest 56K V90 modems available in the shops. For a cheap modem for average personal use, this is for you. For about a year I used this thing and had no problems. Then I needed more. Instead of upgrading phone lines I decided to try a more expensive and better modem. It was a lot quicker to connect and run but still not sufficient. For moderate or casual internet use this is a great and excellent value modem. But if you want really quick (6-7k/s on 56K modem) downloading or serious surfing it is not for you. ...  Read the complete review

Creative Modem Blaster V90 ISA (523 words)

my computer originally came with a PCTel-based winmodem and it was a living hell! constant problems, chiefly "dead pipes": the connection is there, but nothing goes to the ISP and ends up 404. reconnecting didn't help, the only thing was to reboot every 20 - 30 minutes. no matter what i did, the problems wouldn't stop. i finally figured it's because my machine's an older one -- PII-350 -- and it probably couldn't handle all the processing required: sysmonitor showed that CPU usage increased whenever i went online. i decided i wanted a hardware modem to reduce the load on the CPU and because i'd already lost my temper and ...  Read the complete review

Creative Modem Blaster V90: Creative ModemBlaster - Blasts away the competition?? (328 words)

In the quickly advancing age of telecommunications and connectivity, with ASDL round the corner, cable modems just arriving, and ISDN established for some time yet only having a minority interest, the good old 56k modem remains the choice of many when connecting to the internet. At the end of the day it’s cheaper for most to use a modem than pay for the line rental and hardware costs of using the other devices. So when my last internal modem packed in, I was left scratching my head as to what to buy. Modem technology hasn’t advanced that much in recent years and there isn’t a whole load to choose between this 56k modem and that 56k modem. ...  Read the complete review
