For those in know, no doubt threedom is the way to go!

      Freedom to work

As most people will know, the daily commute is a chore and one which could be far more effectively used, catching up on work related matters - projects, emails, etc. However, the train journey home can prove a fruitless waste of time. Connecting a USB modem to the work laptop is neigh on impossible due to security regulations! Well until Mifi came along that is.

Mifi is so simple. Turn it on, log into the security menu and set a password. Then connect your laptop up wireless and you have internet access, it really is that simple. You can connect up to 5 devices at any one time, perfect if you are travelling home with colleagues and want to spilt the annual cost.

The MIFI unit is available only through Three (unless you purchase it on Amazon sim free at close on £300), on either Pay as go or a 1 month rolling contract at £49.99, excluding any data or £69.99 including 3GB of data lasting 12months. Alternative 18/24 month contracts are availbe, with the mifi unit for free. Monthly data allowances start 1GB for £9.50 or (£7.50 with £39.99 modem cost), right up to £25 for a 7GB allowance. So if your budget conscious, perhaps this is not the package for you!

Overall the signal is perfectly acceptable, providing internet access for at least 75% of time on the weekly commute from the south to London. The unit does however have a slightly annoying tendency to shut down after 5 minutes of no transmission, in order to save battery life. But hit the power button, and your up and running in what feels like no time at all. On average, you get over 4 hours on internet access, but less when connecting multiple devices! However, plug it into a usb battery pack, and your laughing!

      Would I recommend it?

Yes absolutely. Even though three does not have the best coverage, this unit gives me the opportunity to catch up with work on the train. 75% of 4 hours daily commute, is better than 0% or 10% catching up on offline emais.

Plus you have nearly 2 weeks to test the unit on contract, so if it does not work you can simply return it.

For those in know, no doubt threedom is the way to go!
