The BLN and BCN routers also support an optional SRM for 1Gbps total bandwidth and PPX processor redundancy. Designated the SRM-F, it supports the two remaining 256 Mbps PPX processor data paths. With two SRMs installed, each FRE and ARE processor can access the four PPX processor paths. The SRMs provide redundancy for nonstop operation if one SRM fails. A malfunctioning SRM can be hot-swapped with a new SRM, while two other data paths continue to operate at 512 Mbps aggregate. Each SRM operates independently, providing for complete fault resiliency.
