This is easy and nothing to get alarmed about. It does most of the work and tells you when its your turn to participate. The while process was much more fun than I had originally anticipated. Premium Review Surfboard SB3100: It Doesn't Look Like a SurfBoard, But it's Cool (815 words)

This is going to be quite a short opinion by my standards - it's hard to know what to say about a Modem, but I think this one is worth recommending so here goes. Also, sorry it's the SB4100 I'm writing about, but I only noticed it was in the wrong place when I went to post - I'll try to get it moved! The Surfboard 4100 Cable Modem, made by Motorola, is provided as standard with the Telewest Blueyonder service. If you buy it separately it's about £150. I'm not going to discuss broadband in general here, just the modem itself - if you're interested in broadband I'll be discussing Blueyonder in another op later. The ...  Read the complete review

Having been using UPC Telekabel’s Chello service for the last eleven months and become dependent on it – I work from home, so having an always on connection is a necessity rather than a luxury, I have become very used to Cable Modem access. Imagine my horror when my chunky LAN City modem appeared to have been toasted, and I had to spend a week on a 56kps dial-up connection. However my patience was rewarded when I got given a Motorola SurfBoard 4100E modem to replace the LAN City brick, having been given the 3100 as an interim measure for a few days. As far as cable modems go, this is one of the most unobtrusive. My LAN City Modem had been ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Surfboard SB3100: Surf bored NO WAY (870 words)

The Motorola Surfboard is much more exciting than it's name sounds. You are connected to the Internet at lightning speeds. Always ON no Dial Up and no logging on and off. My time on the internet has only been spoilt by the speed at which I can read some of the amazing reviews here on Dooyoo. Dial up means slow unfortunately. Pages would take ages to load and after rating take even longer to get back to the New reviews Section. So when my ISP offered me broadband for 99p more a month with free instalation, guess who was jumping up and down. On 8/9/2005 my favouritist guy in the world came a did the broadband instalation in less than an hour. After he ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Downloads in a flash (255 words)

I am now the proud owner of a Surfboard 4100, the Motorola cable modem supplied by NTL. This is an external cable modem, it sits neatly on it's own stand taking up very little room. At about 6 inches tall by 3 inches wide and 10 inches deep it has a relatively small footprint. There's not much to look at, 4 green leds give you the status and the orange led underneath shows activety. This is not about how it looks, that doesn't matter once you've seen how it performs. Anyone used to the endless wait for files to be downloaded will love this modem. A 50k web page will open in a second, a 5mb mp3 file will download in 1 or 2 minutes. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Surfboard SB3100: Faster Surfing with Surfboard 3100 (330 words)
by - written on 09/05/01 (Very useful, 1077 readings)

I decided to go for NTL's broadband cable connection for three main reasons: 1) I was alarmed at rising phone bills as our family's use of the internet snowballed, even at local evening rates. 2) The frustration of slow downloads 3) The cost (£19.99/month) seemed affordable. Of course you have to be in a cabled area. The first salesperson I spoke to told me I wasn't, but I persevered and another operator set everything up efficiently. She suggested I rent the modem at £5/month, rather than buy it for £150, on the basis that something newer and better would probably come along before long! The modem was delivered as promised ...  Read the complete review
