The Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCMCIA Controllerless is furnished with Zoom World Traveler Universal DAA software that allows the modem to work with phone systems in 185 countries. Despite its low cost, the Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCMCIA Controllerless Model 3000 features an on-board DSP (Digital Signal Processor). Many modems being sold today, particularly those installed by PC manufacturers, do not include this feature. Instead, they rely on the multi-tasking abilities of Windows software and the PC's processor to perform the complex, real-time computing required for high speed communications. This often results in poor modem performance and a significant loss of PC computing power and speed. With its on-board DSP, however, the Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCMCIA Controllerless Model 3000 offers high performance with Windows.

The Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCMCIA Controllerless Model 3000 is capable of receiving data from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or online service over standard phone lines at speeds up to 56 Kbps uncompressed or 230.4 Kbps with compression. Outgoing data is transmitted at speeds up to 33.6 Kbps. The Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCMCIA Controllerless is Dualmode, supporting both the V.90 ITU Standard and K56flex, the commonly used pre-standard 56K technology. The modem automatically selects V.90, K56flex, 33.6 Kbps or slower speed to achieve the fastest compatible connection speed. Like all Zoom Dualmode modems, the Model 3000 includes V.80 capability for compatibility with H.324 standard point-to-point video telephony over regular phone lines. It also supports Group 3, Class 1 Fax. Additional features include PC Card Guard to protect against damage to the modem that can be caused by accidental connection to a digital PBX phone system.
