Advantages: Superior customer service, outstanding deals and respect you as a person and not a statistic.
Disadvantages: Not having an Abbey National near to you. That would be a real shame.
I am a mortgage consultant for my sins! Yep I know there's alot of you out there hissing, many that have had bad experiences with guys/girls like us but there again we're not all cast from the same mould. Anyway less of me and more about the Abbey. As an independent consultant I have insight into a vast number of lenders out there and believe me some of them ain't pretty. Abbey are to me a cut above the rest in their professionalism, their customer service and also their cost. True they do not have the best Standard Rate on the market but I don't see that that really matters as most of my customers are looking for a better scheme than the variable rate. A fixed, Capped, discounted etc.. The Abbey are also one of the few that see their customers as people rather than a statistic. Every customer is treated and judged on their own merits. Not as some who caterwaul down the telephone 'We can't do that coz its not in our rules!'(Did someone mention Hellifax!? Ssh I never said a word!) They are very flexible if a customer has a good credit history they are prepared to stretch that little bit further to help the customer buy that dream home where the other lenders have cruelly scoffed 'in your dreams matey. Not in this lifetime!' They have very good First Time buyers rates with additional perks. For instance paying a valuation survey cost, providing a small cashback of up to £500 to help out with maybe legal costs and low arrangement fees if any. Remortgages - another plus. They pay all your legal fees, valuation and registration fees to switch to them. The only cost to yourself is a £25 telegraphic transfer charge. I back my words up with proof. I have recently remortgaged my father from the Hellifax to the Abbey on a deal he is absolutely delighted with. He has remortgaged and borrowed an extra amount for home improvements at less cost than his original mortgage with the
H. They will allow you to borrow up to 95% of the value of your property for home improvements and up to 85% if you are looking to consolidate loans, credit card debts etc.. Their customer service in my area(Cambridgeshire) is worthy of praise and i hand on heart for what its worth recommend them to you as a lender well worth considering. UPDATE**** Please if you have read this can you rate an opinion on it even if it is bad it is better that I know. There are 26 of you that have read this and not even bothered to rate it. I would like to know why this is?

- 01/10/01 I am currently changing my bank account to Abbey as I have heard this is useful when applying for a mortgage. My hubby had a repossesion in his previous marriage, which is now satisfied, and we are in the process of applying to the Abbey for a mortgage. We heard they treat people like people, not computer numbers as other lenders do. I will let you know how we get on.
ps - we are 'level 5' application! I am guessing that is bad :0( |

- 28/04/01 VU opinion, well wrote. The number of reads by none members has increased dramatically lately. I know it is very frustrating but that is life. Keep up the good work. |

- 11/04/01 I agree with you there is nothing more frustrating than seeing all those reads and not rates.
