Disadvantages: You don't know what they've sorted until it's too late

Oh Abbey National are clever.
And they think we won't notice.
But we will.
And we will beat them at their own game.
Oh yes.

The haze of madness has cleared now. I can tell you my tale :

I recently decided to remortgage my house to get a better deal and raise some capital at the same time. I spent a good few weeks trawling round other building societies getting quotes, and also doing research on the internet. Finally, I had decided on who would get my business if Abbey National couldn't come up with the goods. This obviously wasn't going to happen, because we had been loyal customers with them for eight years and with so much competition they would be bound to want to keep us.

Anyway, my wife made the call to them (she used to be a financial adviser and understands these things) and we were amazed at what we were told:

First they would tell us whether we could have the extra money.
Then we could sit down with an adviser and go through the new application.
Abbey National would then sort everything out, and we would be on a new Mortgage with some extra money in our hands. Fantastic.
Oh, and then they would tell us what rate we'd be on.
And if we didn't like that rate?
Tough!! We would have already completed.
