Advantages: lots of branches around...at least for now

Disadvantages: rates and advantages not as god as other banks

This is the bank we chose not to go with.

From the time that my wife and I started to pay in our paychecks monthly, Barclays, the bank that we have our ordinary accounts with, began flooding us with offers for mortgages. Also, any time we walked into our local branch and the manager wasn't busy she would approach one of us and start a conversation about our future mortgage needs. Got to give them a 10 for 10 on hassle factor.

When we did purchase our house and started looking at mortgages, it seemed that every scheme Barclays did was done by someone else better, cheaper, and easier. It was uncanny. Not that that fact stopped the mailings. Far from it. We are still getting the ocasional mailing now. In view of the higher price of their mortgages, I can see how they fund their letter campaign.
