Advantages: Place to live
Disadvantages: Stress
I can only praise Bristol and West. I was having family problems with my future mother in law. And need to find a mortgage quick to buy a flat that hubby and I was interested in. It was a rather complicated storey. As hubby and me where not married at this time. Then mortgage could only be in my name as the company he worked for was a little bit unstable. I had been living with my future hubby with his mother. Well things came to a head one-day. I packed a bag and walked out having no way to stay. I slept in my car for the first night. Hubby went mad. I slept on people?s floors and then found some where to rent for the next 12 weeks, which I hoped, would be when I could move in. Well it took 13 weeks from start to finish. And the flat was empty. Well I made an offer for the flat of £35,000 it was accepted. (This was about 2 and a half years ago. Must be now worth about £50,000). Next I needed a mortgage. The estate that I was buying from could not do more for me. (Yes I know that he was making money). We chose Bristol and West. I was not that worried about the details. I know know that it is not the best mortgage in the world. I just wanted a place of my own. The estate agent helped with the deatils. I got the forms filled them in and sent them off with my bank details. The forms where easy to fill in and I could call my local Bristol and West Branch if I had any problems. But as I live near Bristol the main office is not to far away. This was on a Wednesday and by the following Wednesday 5 working days (dont forget they would never had my details until the Thursday) I had decision that they where going to lend me the money. I was over the moon. It meant that it was down to the solicitors to sort all the rest out. As said it took 13 weeks from start to when we moved in. During that time I was on tenderhooks. And still could get excited even after we moved in. The only
thing that got to me a little annoyed was that the perspective buyer before me had carried out full surveys. Bristol and West would not take the mines survey etc done by that person?s solicitor. Why is one going to pop up in the garden over night? Planning permission I can understand. Overall they where fast. But why does it take so long to buy a property. It must come down in time and that would stop people pulling out and changing there mind.
