Newest Review: ... call all the time to sort it out. Then, to top it off, when I did get angry about it, the member of staff called me a name when she thought I was on mute! Fantastic service! I finally talked to a call centre employee who was honest with and told me that they are at least two weeks behind their service standard, so if you're waiting for a letter from them, it could be some time. I am now planning to remortgage after a year with Britannia which is something I never thought I would do. ... more

Premium Review Britannia: Don't even think about it (308 words)

Having had two mortgages in my life, I can't say I have a full view of the mortgage offerings out there. What I can say is that I would never ever ever recommend Britannia to anyone. Even my worst enemy. I should have realised there would be problems when the original quotation never failed to materialised which is a breach of the mortgage code. However, being in a hurry I proceeded with what looked like a really good deal for a flexible mortgage. The application process was ok and the funds arrived in time. But.....ever since then, I have had the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I have already had three apology letters, two compensation ...  Read the complete review

Mortgage application process was lenghty, manual and due to them losing paperwork had to be done twice!!!! Local office were friendly but ultimately they couldn't deliver the letter of offer within 6 weeks!!! I had to take it up with head office, who have lovely taped music, friendly operators who unfortunatley don't take any action or record any calls!!! Net effect, we gave them 3 weeks notice of mortgage application and yet had to move house and wait a further 3 weeks for cash to arrive!!!!!!! Utterly incompetent and unrepentant throughout, they have offered no excuses, blaming me for not giving them sufficient time!!!! Only for the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Britannia: quick to approve - slow to deliver! (274 words)

After my offer was accepted a few months ago on a house in london, I choose to go with britannia to provide my mortgage as they offered the best rates at the time ( 2% discount mortage). Initially they said that didn’t need any documentation P60, payslips etc.. and the whole processs should only take 4 – 6 weeks. They approved the mortgage and everything seemed OK. As property prices were increasing at the time , obviously I was keen to get the deal settle ASAP. However, I was outraged when 4 weeks into the process my solicitors still hadn’t go the confirmation from them. After chasing then up they told me they needed to see my P60 and 3 last months ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Britannia: cheap and cheerful (211 words)

Well, it was the cheapest mortgage at the time. So we bought it. I mean, what else do you need to know? In fact, there's plenty of other things you need to know. Britannia make mistakes frequently. They are reasonably good at correcting them, but not so good at spotting them without a bit of help. It would be nice if they did that for us, really. It's very hard to get buildings insurance outside the Britannia. Although in theory it's possible, after three months attempting to do so I simply gave up and accepted the Britannia insurance. That cost me £50 lost premiums with a third-party insurer. Not really very fair. My worst gripe ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Britannia Rule! Updated (687 words)

About four years ago I received the annual statement from Sun Life Assurance regarding my mortgage endowment and, being an accountant, I did a few calculations to see roughly what the final figure would be at the end of the term. I was horrified by what appeared to be quite a shortfall in endowment to mortgage outstanding! Since the returns from the policy were not going to be enough to pay off the mortgage at the end of the term I had a choice to either take out a further policy or change my mortgage. I decided to change my mortgage from an endowment mortgage to a repayment mortgage. I shopped around and found that the best deal would be with the Britannia ...  Read the complete review
