Well, it was the cheapest mortgage at the time. So we bought it. I mean, what else do you need to know?

In fact, there's plenty of other things you need to know. Britannia make mistakes frequently. They are reasonably good at correcting them, but not so good at spotting them without a bit of help. It would be nice if they did that for us, really.

It's very hard to get buildings insurance outside the Britannia. Although in theory it's possible, after three months attempting to do so I simply gave up and accepted the Britannia insurance. That cost me £50 lost premiums with a third-party insurer. Not really very fair.

My worst gripe is that they never answer the phone. You really do have to listen to the music for up to one hour to get to talk to a human, and this seems to be true even at 0800 or 2050, or whenever it's open. Perhaps it would be better if I dealt with a branch -I deal with head office.

However, I have to say, it is cheap. And it's a mutual, which is worth something. Don't forget though, you only get what you pay for.
