Advantages: Lots of lenders on their books

Disadvantages: Web site doesn't work

I found E-loan from a flyer in the Sunday News paper. I have been looking tentatively for a re-mortgage deal for over six months.

I currently have a mortgage with the Halifax. I’ve had the loan since Nov 1996. It was a 2.2% discounted for three years, with penalties extending for seven years. The discount period is over, and the Halifax’s variable rate is far from competitive, and is likely to remain that way while they offer very competitive rates with ‘IF’.

I’ve been advised that there are a number of organizations that would be happy to buy out my mortgage, but I can’t be bothered with the hastle – I’ve always found finantial organizations to be some of the pushyist in existence.

I gave E-loan a shot. The site is staight forward, you simply enter various basic details (although nothing about your existing loan if you’ve selected re-mortgage, which I find interesting). Click submit, and I’m then presented with the following message.

We're sorry, but we have experienced an unexpected technical problem in handling your last request. Our technical staff have already been notified.

I’ll give it a week, if I get any more joy, I’ll keep you updated.
