Egg Credit Card– definitely don’t go there!! As a loyal customer for 5 years I was rewarded by an interest hike from 17.9% to 22.9%. I was not informed and only spotted the change on my monthly statement by chance. When I approached them they told me that they were reviewing individual accounts and that the increase could not be reversed as it was due to ‘current market position’. They were very unhelpful and blunt on the phone. Fortunately I was working on a zero balance each month and had been for 4 months so had the power to walk away. My husband has an Egg credit card, and even with me as the supplemental card holder and written power of attorney, Egg WILL NOT speak to me. My husband is away frequently, and even when he is home, I handle all these matters. He hates doing that. Egg has him as the credit card holder and me as the supplemental card holder. They will not talk to me on the phone and refuse to accept the power of attorney always saying that it is due to the data protection laws. They take the data protection laws to the farthest extremes in that they won't honour a certified legal power of attorney. How more explicit could my husband be than a power of attorney. Reading through the reviews for Egg mortgage, it appears that the people involved have had a pretty good experience with Egg mortgages. Unfortunately, I have to give a rather different view. Unlike the rest of the egg operation, it appears that the mortgage part of the administration left quite a lot to be desired. Forms that we sent back got lost - 3 times, and the whole process was much more stressful than it should have been with a slightly shambolic feel. We didn't feel as if we'd been kept informed of progress at all, with us having to phone them to check on what was happening (and to correct basic mistakes). I APPLIED FOR A MORTGAGE AT EGG THREE YEARS AGO WHEN WE WERE MOVING FROM OUR APARTMENT. THE PEOPLE THERE SEEMED NICE AND GAVE ME PAMPHLETS AND OFFERED COFFEE, BUT THAT WAS A FACADE NOW IT SEEMS. TEHY ARE REALLY BASTARDS THAT OFFER YOU MONEY UPFRONG BUT SUDDENLY CHANGE THEIR PRICES AFTER AFEW MONTHS. THEY MORE THAN DOUBLED THEIR INTEREST RATE AND TOLD ME TO PAY TRIPLE THE DOWNPAYMENT. F--K YOU! I WENT IN THERE WITH A GUN AND THREATENED TO KILL THEM. I SHOT ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES IN THE HEAD AND SPARKS STARTED TO FLY. IT WAS A MACHINE!
