Advantages: Easy to set up. Offer fast track completion. Pleasant, helpful staff

Disadvantages: Can't think of any.

I took a First Active mortgage following the separation from my soon to be ex husband. I had done a lot of research on mortgages and this seemed at the time to be one of the best deals I could get.
I was scared of committing as I had never had a mortgage on my own so couldn't bring myself to press the submit button on the internet application (which was really easy to complete)
I decided that I would call them and spoke to a very pleasant lady who was so helpful and actually helped me do the application on the phone instead. It took a few quick minutes and that was that!
The information came through to me very quickly and I was told I was eligible for a fast track (apparently meaning it would be complete in 28 days). In principle that would have been brilliant however the Woolwich really wanted to be awkward about finalising my mortgage with them so the process was delayed.
My fixed rate ends in Sept 2008 and I have to release further money to my ex partner so I will look to move on but I have to say that First Active had made my Maiden mortgage experience very pleasant and easy and I would recommend them for sure.

Summary: For hassle free arranging First Active won my vote!

Glad you've had a positive experience. I have my mortgage with them and am trying to release equity at the moment - this is a process that has been going on since January and they are not helpful at all. I have sent all information they have requested and they have repeatedly 'lost' the information resulting in me incurring additional charges from my bank for re-prints of statements.
