Halifax Mortgage Warning - my personal experience!
Author Name: JTaylor
Disadvantages: Halifax now have £2450 of my hard earned money and refuse to look into it any further
A sincere word of warning for anyone who has a mortgage with the Halifax and considering paying it off early!
I live on my own and have over the past five years sacrificed holidays and home improvements in order to regularly over pay on my monthly mortgage payments in order to pay off my mortgage early.....or so I thought! I work very hard for my wage, as most of the working population do, well unless you work for the Halifax who are very happy to accept their guaranteed salaries and in some cases large bonuses. I know that I am a little fish in a very large pond but don't I deserve some element of customer care, as without the likes of us they wouldn't exist?
In January 2012 I analysed my mortgage statements to find that the Halifax had misplaced, somewhere in there excellent accounting system £2450 of my hard earned money. I initially raised the discrepancies with the Blackburn branch in January to no avail. In fact I was made to feel very unwelcome and a burden to them when I regularly visited them regarding this issue, received no customer care and on one occasion whilst discussing this very upsetting issue with a member of their mortgage advisory team he was more interested in fiddling with his mobile phone under the table instead of listening to his customer! I was so unhappy with the way I was treated I took the matter up with the Burnley branch to in fact receive the same amount of nonexistent customer care by their mortgage advisor and manager.
The Halifax central mortgage complaints department were of no help too and they have been very quick to close my complaint with no proof given to me that they have looked into it, even though I have on numerous occasions at my own expense sent them repeated amounts of proof that the money has been taken from my current account and not been transferred into my mortgage. They were quick to offer me some compensation in the form of a £50 cheque, how insulting is this! I have also dealt with some of their counter staff who have not shown any interest in helping me either and have to date sent the Halifax Chief Executive three direct e-mails explaining my case with no response whatsoever. How does he sleep at night...probably quite well I imagine as it seems to me that none of the staff I've dealt with have any morals or conscience at all. Well Halifax, I don't sleep very well and the fact that £2450 of my money has disappeared with no one bothering to look into where it has gone has now affected my health as well as my pocket.
Anyone wishing to pay off their mortgage early use another mortgage provider!
Summary: Warning for anyone who trys to pay off a Halifax mortgage early.
