I found Halifax as a lender to be pretty good overall (Halifax)
Member Name: owlypowly
Advantages: Convenient, Staff friendly, Many options available Disadvantages: £50 fee for release of deeds!
I have taken out two mortgages with the Halifax - the first in 1995. Although the initial application process was longwinded and involved a two hour interview session with a member of the Halifax, I have never experienced any problems with them as such - maybe that was because my mortgage repayments were always made on time! One criticism I would make however, is when I sold the property that was the subject of this mortgage, the Halifax charged me £50 to release the Deeds to my solicitor!! I thought that was pretty mean!! Apart from that, however, the service provided was fine. They lent me slightly more than other Banks/Building Societies were prepared to offer which really helped out as I didn't earn a great deal of money at the time. Summary: |
