We had a mortgage with Halifax since we first bought our flat in 2003, as they were offering the most competitive deal at the time. When our initial lock in period was over we went to see them and found that even though they were no longer that competitive it wasn't worthwhile switching as the relatively low level of mortagage debt meant that exit ... I recently remorgaged with Halifax - even though I was still reeling from the huge loss in value of the shares I received when it converted from a Building Society. Previous Mortgage ----------------------- THis was with the Mansfield Building Society and I found that even though interest rates were plummeting, Mansfield ... Read the complete review

We got a tracker mortgage with the Halifax in July 2008. It is BOE +0.68%. They have been fantastic with us, the purchase of the house was straightforward, the customer services when you call up are excellent, and their call centres are in the UK. They have dropped our tracker rate with the BOE rate, despite a collar applying, so our ... Read the complete review

We have moved house a number of times, and have always gone either with the Nationwide or the Halifax for our mortgage - this is because they offered the right product, responsibly at the time, rather than for any loyalty to the Halifax as a company. Taking the last time we moved, about 5 years ago, we searched the marketplace for a new ... Read the complete review

I agree with Sara Hemissi.
We had a similar problem and it nearly lost us our dream house too.
It got so bad that I had to just up sticks for a week and head to the ski lodge to get away from it all.
We got our house at auction in the end but it was a very stressful time.
I hope everything worked out for you in the end Sara, it sounds like your heart was really set on the house and it would have made everything just perfect!
Take my advice, if things ever get on top of you in the future, ski lodge or horses are the cure (albeit temporary, I mean they just paper over the cracks really).
Anywa y the whole thing was an eye-opener, I felt cheated. And no one likes feeling cheated.
Thank you,
Richard.

For the purpose of this review I am writing about my experience of having a mortgage with Halifax and am not reviewing Halifax and it’s services as a whole. I am very much aware that for some they have had a great experience with them, but for me after being a loyal customer for such a long time. I felt that they had let me down and recently I ... My mortgage has been with the Halifax for the last two years, and it has been a disaster from start to finish. The problem isn’t the actual mortgage itself, but rather the customer service that you receive. If anyone is considering a Halifax mortgage, then I would strongly urge you to consider other alternatives, unless you want a lot of unwanted ... Read the complete review

You may already have read my general comments on remortgaging and why to consider it. Here is my real life experience of the subject: Having held a mortgage with the Abbey National for a few years, I was at best disappointed to discover I was paying 6.1% (their classic rate! Ha! Read classic as RIP OFF) when their new customers ... Read the complete review

I have taken out two mortgages with the Halifax - the first in 1995. Although the initial application process was longwinded and involved a two hour interview session with a member of the Halifax, I have never experienced any problems with them as such - maybe that was because my mortgage repayments were always made on time! One criticism I ... Read the complete review

Well, there isn't one I've found. I have been with the Halifax for many, many years ans the branch I use is the one in Castleford. Staff there are always friendly, cheerful and helpful, although you usually have to queue at least 8 minutes to get to the counter which is a real bind if youare in a hurry. Therefore I only go into the branch ... Read the complete review

As a Halifax Plc member for some 14 years I am very disappointed by their treatment of current customers. The Halifax offer all sorts of incentives to lure customers into their clutches. I have to be honest, they are quite good. BUT... once you are a Halifax customer you are a second rate citizen. You get none of the incentives for mortgages that ... Read the complete review

I applied for a Halifax mortgage found for me by an independant mortgage broker online. My primary attraction to the mortgage was that it was one of the only ones I found that offered 97% LTV (ie. the only mortgage product that allowed a 3% deposit instead of 5 or 10%). They were pretty efficient in getting the application form out to ... Read the complete review

Last week I phoned the Halifax for a mortgage quotation after seeing an independant mortgage advisor and coming up with Halifax as the best lender for us. Anyway the woman that I spoke to was very helpful and she insisted on ringing me back so that the call wasn't on my phone bill as it lasted some 25 minutes. As it could all be done on the ... The Halifax Building Society are just as bad as the Halifax Property Services. We recently moved house and as our existing mortgage was with the Halifax we went to ask their advice on a new mortgage. I remortgaged recently to the Halifax via their internet service. This was a little quirky but quite easy to use but infinitely better than the service received. Unfortunately, they have 'Customer Service Centres' at which it was impossible for anyone to track my application. It took over 8 weeks to process a simple re-mortgage on a ... We are first time buyers and we had a mortgage interview with Halifax yesterday. Being a little wet behind the ears, we hoped that we would be able to talk to someone who would explain the difference between capped and fixed rates, variable and discounted ones. The only thing we did know is that we wanted a repayment mortgage and not one linked ... Read the complete review
