Disadvantages: BANK STATEMENTS WRONG!

Intelligent Finance has been sending out incorrect bank statements - and not telling anybody!

Looking at my Intelligent Finance bank statement today (the paper version) I noticed that
some recent Bill Payments did not seem to have gone through. I then looked at the on-line
version, and bizarrely, the two were quite different! The online version had the bill payments
shown correctly, but the paper one I had just received did not. The result was that my
bank balance according to the paper statement was £1300 pounds more than the online one.
Checking my statements carefully, I found the first error was on Jan 21st.
I telephoned IF to ask about this. Yes, they were aware of the problem with the paper statements,
but did not appear concerned by it, even when I pointed out that people could easily be
unknowingly going overdrawn because of this. I asked to speak to a senior manager and the response
was much the same. I asked when they were thinking of informing people about this error.
Amazingly, the manager told me that there were no plans to write to customers to inform
them of the error, or even to put an announcement on their web page.
Surely if a bank makes such a serious error they should be obliged to inform customers immediately?

Summary: Sending incorrect statements, and not warning customers

I am having a similar problem with IF. The paper statements are out by over £1000 compared to the online account. When I asked the about this they simply reprinted the latest statement with different figures. They have since told me that the problem was due to "incorrect transactions" but are unable to say which transactions are involved. They also claim that the issue was due to technical difficulties in January 2008, but the discrepancies clearly date from 2007.

I would have thought they would have to inform or even if it wasn't a legal obligation a bit of courtesy to let customers know would be nice - especially for those who don't have internet banking and wouldn't otherwise know!
