They have asked for some of the information THREE times and then they don't know that they have received it. I have spoken to them on the phone at least twice a week for a month. Each time I get a promise that it will be sorted out and it never is. There is no way of getting any written record of what has happened. The staff on the telephone seem powerless to do anything about this - there is never anyone who can make any d... more

I am in utter despair in trying to get a loan from the Nationwide Building Society. In attempting to furnish them with proof of my wife's income (she is self-employed) they have asked for P60's, P45's, an employers statement (from our accountant) and SA302's. Every time our accountant sent them a piece of information they have asked for something else. I took out a 10 year fixed rate mortgage with nationwide just over 6 years ago. The offer process was quick and efficient, as was the final completion process. I took out mortgage protection ...2 year cover just to be on the safe side. 2 years ago I became quite ill so worried about my ability to pay my mortgage. By then I had forgotten I had cover. However when I discussed my options with them they reminded me of the cover and have been truly terrific right the way through both in their manner and practical support. I do not know what I would have done without it and them and feel I should place this review to offset some of the negative ones. With the ...  Read the complete review

We took out a tracker interest only mortgage with Nationwide last year as first time buyers. Application process: We used a financial advisor, so he helped greatly with the application process. I have heard so many nightmares from friends who've had last minute problems or demands imposed. Nationwide wanted lots of information and it did feel like jumping through a few hoops, but I understand that this is pretty standard in the current climate. Ultimately we had no problems and the mortgage was approved quickly. The standard (drive-by rip-off!) lenders valuation survey was completed efficiently and without problems too. What I really like about ...  Read the complete review

Worst time of my life trying to get a mortgage out of Nation ... (239 words)

April 2011 We have just had an atrocious time trying to get a mortgage with Nationwide. We had our mortgage decision rejected by their underwriters because they "lost" my husbands SA302s (proof of self-employment income) and they tried to blame it on me not sending them up to them despite that I had a name and date and time of a phone call to themselves confirming that they had received the documents and had them in front of them. We then had to request new copies from HMRC delaying our application by 2 weeks. After we finally completed Nationwide posted back our original documents - not lost at all! I also had to phone them everyday to hassle them and get ...  Read the complete review

What does everyone think of their new counter service started on 7th June? Apparently they have listened to their customers and decided this means:1. Lengths of queues, customers have complained about the queing time. Obviously this has nothing to do with only one counter position open in a line of four but customers are paying in either money or asking for cheques.Answer lets charge customers £10.00 a time to do this. This will ensure they then pay in at a machine.Result large queues at the machine but they can get rid of the excess counter staff = more profits for Nationwide.
