Newest Review: ... pay bills via my savings account. Then they started charging late fees & unauthorised overdraft fees because i was unable to transfer funds into the account becasue they had blocked me from accessing it. They sent threatneing letters regarding my credit card to my old address too, so ofcourse my mail was opened by the people living there, this poses a serious threat of identity theft, but htey dont' care. I had advised Nationwide them on numerous occasions that mail would not be forewarded to me while I was in hospital overseas, but they paid no attention. Thank God my mortgage is with another professional competant concern who provides ... more

I went overseas for medical treatment for a serious condition last year. I couldn't afford to have it treated in the UK. Nationwide were advised of this in advance but kept sending statements for my savings account to my old address. When the letters were returned, which ofcourse they would be! They locked me out of the internet back & made it imposible for me to pay bills via my savings account. Then they started charging late fees & unauthorised overdraft fees because i was unable to transfer funds into the account becasue they had blocked me from accessing it. Premium Review UCB/Nationwide were good, now have high fees (527 words)

This review is slightly different to the other reviewers on here since this is a review for UCB Homeloans. UCB are specialist and are owned by Nationwide and they even use the same logo and style of letterhead on their letters. UCB are the Nationwide specialist in getting mortgages to people who have more difficult circumstances, such as the self employed for example. This is often where Nationwide will point you if you can't prove a regular income. Opening a mortgage was fairly straightforward, of course they charge for a million different things. Valuation wasn't free as it was for many other mortgage companies at the time. I was ...  Read the complete review

I recently went to my local branch in Strood as my mortgage with them was coming to an end of the product term. I asked a really friendly cashier for an appointment and she said a mortgage advisor would call me with in the week. I had a call the next working day from Serena who invited me in to look through my options. I have never really fully understood how my mortgage worked and she changed everything, I now know how my mortgage works and all of the benifits I never knew I had! she reviewed all of my insurences and managed to save me a small fortune on my life, home and mortgage protection insurence. there was no hard sell I could get through to her when ever I ...  Read the complete review

Nationwide Call Centre (158 words)

Trying to contact Nationwide via their Call Centre number, in fact the only way to try to contact them, is truly daunting. Whatever time you call you will invariably receive a message saying that they are experiencing heavy numbers of calls and please call again later! If you do get through there is then the requirement to press keys for the area you wish to access. The key pressing can take you through many options so you really need to get it right first time. If you do get through you may find that you need to be transfered to some other person or area and can then be left in the air or cut off. All my savings are in the ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Nationwide Building Society
by anon - written on 09/06/08

My mother died on the 20th of May, on the 27th the branch made me discuss all of the details in the main lobby of the branch at Diss. They were casual and uncaring. I filled out the forms and returned them on the 28th they assured me it would be dealt with quickly. to date 9th of June they haven't even been entered on the system and no-one knows why. After bieng kept on hold, once for 18 mns, five phone calls later I have finally managed to speak to someone - a manager who has promised to call me back.
If this is Nationwide's idea of customer service then god help us all, it's appallling. I would never do bussiness with them and will be telling everyone I know how bad they are!!!!!
