Advantages: customers still owed from PORTMAN merger

Disadvantages: no help available in branches

Today 14th December 07 I went into my local Nationwide office to ask about my entitlement, as a qualifying member, from the merger with PORTMAN B.S. I believe this payment should have been made in mid September 07 but as of today I have had nothing. To my great surprise the teller informed me that unless I had received a cheque already then I had no entitlement to come. Who on earth trains these staff ?? I then logged into the Nationwide web site and found the appropriate number to contact for queries re. merger payments and am now waiting for an advisor to return my call to take this matter forward.

My concern is wondering just how many other former members of PORTMAN BS are in the same boat? Is this a conspiracy by Nationwide to avoid paying out what they owe or just another prime example of their incompetence ??
