I took my mortgage out with Northern Rock just before the big crisis, needless to say I wish I hadn't. Quite apart from the fact that life is a daily struggle now, I've found Northern Rock unhelpful and uncommunicative.

With all that you hear on the news about reposessions and house prices falling, you'd think that banks would be obliged to help their customers in any way they can. Alas, not so it seems, my experience has shown me that the people these banks do business with seem to matter little.

I phoned Northern Rock to ask for advice and was told there was nothing they could do to help, our mortgage 'holiday' had been used, we are already interest only so that was that. We were first time buyers, I know that any mortgage is an eye opener and a drain that takes some getting used to, our home has now been for sale since March, we didn't even get a year....

Summary: Don't cling to this rock
