Advantages: None really, Get a better mortgage elswhere

Disadvantages: Unbending attitude about bending rules - even if already a customer, Pettyness leading to loss of custom

When my husband and I decided to buy out council house, there was some sort of incentive to get a mortgage with the Yorkshire BS. Free survey or something if we took our loan out with them ... which we did.

4 years down the line, with a good payment history behind us and no missed payments, we decided to move house. Thinking that we would probably get a good deal, because of the loyalty value, we applied to the Yorkshire for a new mortgage.

However, despite already being a customer, when we applied, my husband had only been in his current job 4 months. We were told he would have to have been in it for 6 months to be considered for a new mortgage. Strange, we thought, with all the competition around these days you would have thought they'd be falling over themselves to keep us as customers. But no there was no budging them We would have to wait another 2 months and then apply.

Well, bugger that we thought. They obviously has so little regard for us, why should we be loyal to them. Therefore we let our estate agent do a computer run to find out who *would* lend us money at that moment in time. As you would expect, there were loads of companies willing to give us a mortgage. Therefore we ended up with an A & L stepped repayment mortgage, and Yorkshire BS lost us as customers.

Now I realise that there are 'rules' regarding mortgages, but *surely* if we already *had* a mortgage with the Yorkshire, and they could easily look back and see we were good payers, why on earth did they penalise us? Pettyness I suppose. A jobsworth attitude to sticking to the rules -regardless. Oh well, it's their loss not ours. Weare happy in our new abode with a mortgage that is costing us the same as theirs, even though the house we've bought this time is more expensive!
