Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R ... motherboard that has earned it s spot in my cramped computer case. This board is fantastic - it s available online for £80, but i d pay up to £100. It s hard to put this board into a category of who would use it because it has so many great features but lacks some that a real enthusiast would require. It supports Intel based processors up to a core 2 quad which is overkill for most applications anyway - if you re looking at an I7 processor, you re going to be need a much more expensive board. Advantages: DDR2 & DDR3 can be used, although not at the same time. DDR2 speeds are 1200mhz max (overclocked) or 1066mhz (no overclocking). DDR3 speeds are 1333mhz max. 8GB o... Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 ... have owned this board for a few months now and I have mixed feelings about it to be honest. It certainly well known that the X48 platform is not the easiest platform for over-clocking quad core CPU s. Wish I had read that before I bought it! I have a Q9650 running on my board, it has a reasonably high VID of 1.275v so runs cooler than most at higher VCore settings but conversely it requires more core voltage to get to higher over-clocks. I can get my Q9650 to 4GHz stable on this board, with 1.393v at the core. I wouldn t go much higher to be honest as I would be risking CPU degradation. EVGA nForce 680i SLI ... board was top end just over 2 years ago. As such it was aimed at the enthusiast who was willing to put some work in to setting up their system. Specifications are listed above, so I ll give you a shakedown on the realities of the board. I ll list the cons first, you ll see why at the end. Con s No e-SATA Memory controller is suspect, RAM shouldn t be run above 2.1v. Make sure you check the EVGA website for a list of suitable RAM. Should replace the TIM on both north and south bridges as well as the mosfets. Reliability of recent batches of EVGA 680i s had been suspect.
