... does not mean that its your processor thats at fault it could be some of the other peripherals also. This is because when you alter the FSB you also alter the AGP and the PCI bus speeds. It could be the video card at fault for example. By only altering the processor clock you can acheive extra speed that way. I have been using the board for a couple of months now and am very impressed with it so far. I have tried overclocking my Athlon 700 and have reached 800 with no obvious problems allthough I did not run it...more

Premium Review Abit KA7: Give your Athlon system a BOOST!! (388 words)

Abit is one of the most largest motherboards manufacturer along with ASUS, Tyan and many others. But without any doubt, the Abit motherboard is the most popular motherboard manufacturer among overclockers. This is my first Athlon motherboard, and I'm very happy with it. First of all, this board comes with 6 (that's it: SIX) PCI slots, 1 ISA slot (shared with a PCI) and an AGP slot and NO AMR slots (I personally dislike AMR slots). Also, this board comes with 4 DIMM banks insted of 3 as most Athlon motherboard. Each DIMM bank canhold up to 512mb RAM. So this board supports up to 2gb RAM (wow!). Untill now, besides Abit KA7, the only Athlon motherboard that ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Overclockers Dream (319 words)

Over the years and the different makes and Chipsets of boards, the main reason for buying Abit boards has been the fact they offer great overclocking facilities. The KA7 is no different to all the rest. The KA7 features soft menu III which allows alterations to the FSB (Front Side Bus). It also offers a clocking facility on the Processor chip only and not the components. The feature seems to be pretty unique and is great for getting extra performance. The fact that your computer crashes when overclocking does not mean that its your processor thats at fault it could be some of the other peripherals also. This is because when you alter the FSB you also alter the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Abit KA7: Reasons not to buy KX133 boards (425 words)

I agree with Gah and Guybrush who both put forward the opinion that the Abit board is the best motherboard for Athlons currently, but if I was thinking about buying an Athlon chip and board (which i am!) I would wait for a short while as soon these boards will be obsolete! Please bear with me as the reason for this centres around the AMD chips. Currently AMD are releasing their Duron chips (the AMD competitor for the Intel Celerons)in what is know as Socket A format rather than the Slot A format which Athlons currently are manufactured in. The Athlons will be switched to Socket A format within the next 6 months The reasons for these are manifold and ...  Read the complete review
