Asus Maximus III Extreme is a new feature rich motherboard by Asus that offers a large variety of slots and ports. One of the unique feature of the motherboard is the bluetooth module embedded in it. The module allows its users to connect a cellphone. You can also overclock the board from a remote place using this feature. Asus has made this board on an Intel P55 Chipset and have also included numerous slots in it . Due to this, the board has an additional dual PCIe*16 slot enabling its users to add more chips and cards to the board during future upgrades.
The board offers native support for USB 3.0 and has two USB ports. USB 3.0 allows a file transfer speed of 400 mbps. I transferred an 800 MB file in 10 seconds but that may be due to my old processor. You also get eight SATA cables which can be used as a backup if your older SATA cable becomes defective. Other accessories include 2 way SLI and Firewire connectors allowing you to add two graphic cards to enhance your computer's power. Other features include:
Six SATA ports
One PCI slot
Seven USB 2.0 ports(quite unnecessary)
One FireWire port
I tested this board using PC Mark Vantage. It gave a score of 6238 which is low. But again you require a good processor, RAM and graphic card to obtain high scores. Overall, this motherboard is a monster in terms of features but it is too expensive. But if you want a board which is futureproof, then buy this one.
This motherboard supports the Intel Lynnfield processors in LGA1156 package, which as memory and PCI express controller integrated to support 2-channel (4 DIMMs) DDR3 memory and 16 PCI express 2.0 lanes, providing great graphics performance. Intel Lynnfield processor is one of the most powerful and energy efficient CPU in the world.
The motherboard supports DDR3 memory that features data transfer rates of 2200/2133/2000/1800/1600/1333/1066 MHz to meet the higher bandwidth requirements of the latest operation system, 3D graphics, multimedia, and Internet applications. The dual-channel DDR3 architecture doubles the bandwidth of your system memory to boost system performance.
