Advantages: Good set of features, value for money

Disadvantages: Reliability

This motherboard served me well during its time in use but unfortunately this period was only a year and a half! The board was taken back under warranty and a replacement given of a different model due to this being discontinued. I am unsure whether there was a problem with this range from Asus or whether I just received one with a manufacturing fault. It turned out it was a capacitor that had mysteriously broken itself! I'd have to given a warning that in my experience, this board has the potential for a reliability issue.

The board offers a huge range of features which is why I purchased this. The 4 RAM memory slots with support for upto 4GB was the main attraction. However the board does offer a large number of expansion slots, solid clips for aftermarket cooling fans and processor heatsinks, PS2 and USB connections, firewire connectivity and much more.

The motherboard BIOS is extremely powerful and offers you full customisation of just about every aspect! It is suggested you set your machine to boot from CD/DVD drive first incase of the need to use a recovery disc in the event of system failure. The main customisation features I used, were setting where to boot from and the processor and memory overclocking function. The BIOS offers easy to use software enabling even the novice to overclocking, the ability to increase the voltage to the processor and memory to boost your system performance. I overclocked my processor from 3GHz to 3.2GHz and whilst the option was there to go further I did not want to since I felt the optimal performance/heat had been reached.

The board will fit an ATX case but if I remember right some of the screw hole markings were not well marked. It was a bit annoying during installation but nothing you couldn't work out in a small space of time.

I think this board offered good value for money since it offered a lot of features but in reality it was let down by its reliability.

Summary: A good motherboard but be wary of a potential reliability problem
