Asus K8V SE Deluxe ... you re looking for the perfect partner to a Socket 754 (AMD Athlon 64) chip, then this is the board. You won t be able to use the new, more expensive, dual core chips now on the market, as these require a Socket 939, but for those of us looking for a system capable of running Half Life 2 at high resolution and high speed, which is also a damn solid workstation at a reasonable cost, then this is a fabulous upgrade. I have to confess to being a bit of a VIA fan. A lot of people think they are a bad chipset manufacturer, and I will admit that their Intel chipsets are far from perfect. Elitegroup K7S5A Pro ... ECS K7S5A Pro offers itself as a slight advance on the older K7S5A. But only slightly. The board itself is compact for a full ATX design so there should not be any problems fitting it in a case. The Darl Purple colour of the board looks quite nice. The board has 5 PCI slots and 1 AGP 4x graphics slot. It takes a Socket A AMD processor up to an XP2600 with 266mhz FSB. As this chip is no longer availiable a XP2400 should be considered the max. Slots are included for both SDR 168pin and DDR 184pin ram. Two slots for each type providing for a max of 1GB ram. Only one type of ram can be used at once. Asus A7N8X Deluxe ... was the first time I have built a computer and as such I was nervous about installing it. The instructions were very clear although some of the black and white pictures were poor. The board is supposed to give error messages through the headphone output, even when the graphics card was not installed I could not get any message to that effect. Once all the components were fitted it booted first time to much relief. I have built the computer for gaming and with a Radeon 850XT Platinum card the results are superb.
