Advantages: NONE REALLY

Disadvantages: YOU COULD BE DRIVING AROUND UNINSURED

we took out motor insurance with this company in October this year. 7 weeks later we received a letter from them which had taken 8 days to arrive saying 'they had cancelled the policy' this had been done 7 days earlier and we were driving around with out insurance during this, unaware that we were doing so. Their explanation was that the underwriters were not honerng the quoted prices and even though we had paid in full had many conversations n the phone with them, this was never mentioned. at the time of taking the initial insurance they were just £140 cheaper than the next quote. Now, they are asking for another £500!!!! on top of the original premium to insure us. Searches on the internet have proved fruitless as all insurance companies have put their prices up during this time and it means 1st quote are in fact still the cheapes even at a massive £500 extra. We were left with no alternative but to insure with them again as couldn't afford any extra again or to be driving around uninsured. Has anybody else had this problem? what do we do? are they allowed to do this? and are we entitled to compensation. this is really poor practise and it sticks in my gut that i had to give them another policy. they are very unhelpful, won't acdept responsibility but will happiky take your money.

Summary: Seems they can take your money in full then cancel your insurance 7 weeks later
