Getting Married Helps!! (AA Car Insurance)

Advantages: cheaper if you're married

Disadvantages: not so if you're 'single'

We did our usual yearly ring round the car insurers, using all the usual 0800 numbers. This year we were getting married just before the insurance was due so didn't want many hassles as we had plenty of them already! Because of this, we were also expecting significant decreases. Our renewal had come through and was very good but thought it was still wise to ring round.

In past years the AA had given us very uncompetitive quotes so we had stopped ringing them. However, this year, my (now) husband decided to ring them up "just for a laugh" and was slightly stunned. They were about £100 cheaper than our renewal, despite me being under 25, and the cheapest we could find. Rather a shock when previous quotes from them had been about £1000 - £2000! They even knocked a bit off for deciding to go with them straight away on that day, so he gave them his credit card number and we were set for a worry free wedding and honeymoon.

After the honeymoon we thought we would have a problem as my husband had been done for speeding a day before the wedding and so hadn't had a chance to sort it out with the insurance company. We were half expecting a great increase in the premium or for them to decide to decline us because it had actually happened before the insurance commenced. There were a few initial queries because of when it happened, but, again, we were amazed. They only upped it by £50.

I am sure that the only reason why we got a reasonable quote from them is because we were married. This is a good thing for us, but not for all those single people looking for cheap car insurance. However, it may also be cheaper as we have AA breakdown cover already.

I am now looking for my own car and, obviously, the car insurance to go with it. We have been told that I should get a discount from them because my husband has car insurance with them already. Another plus for the AA.
