Advantages: Friendly UK based sales staff

Disadvantages: Underhanded ways of selling, Appalling policies on refunds, no option to set up online

I signed up to admiral this year because I assumed they were cheap, appearing on a price comparison site as notably cheaper than all the others. On phoning them (online was not an option) I was greeted by a friendly girl who proceed to process my quote. Its at this stage Admiral add on the IPT (insurance premium tax) bumping the price up to the same as all the others. This is a sneaky underhand process that Admiral use to get the cheapest price on the compairson site.
Never the less my old insurance had been cancelled and I decided to reluctantly proceed. The advisor then quoted me a monthly premium and offered Personal accident cover for an extra £1.99 a month. I said no so she "went off to speak to her manager" (which Admirals way of apply a standard 10% discount to clinch the sale) and she came back and said she could "do it for me for a reduced price" I thought great, my insurance price is lower and I have extra cover.
Wrong, she had reduce the PA cover but still putting my monthly premium up. No problems I thought, I'll phone and cancel it. Wrong again, turns out admiral although I have yet to pay for the PA cover they mis-sold me (spread over 12 months), they won't give a refund on cancelling it after 14days - (listed in very small print in the documents), now I knew this was true for cancelling insurance policies but to apply this to policy add ons too? well that is just a disgusting money making ploy.

Anyway. after many arguements and them showing no remorse or want to sort this problem, I can concluded that Admiral are the most underhanded, unhelpful insurance company I have dealt with in 10 years of motoring - I shant be renewing and I am going to query their selling techniques with the FSA. I advise anyone setting up a policy with them to be very careful of being ripped off especially if using a price comparison website

Summary: Best avoided unless you enjoy being lied to and ripped off and lied to
