Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: very poor service, could cost you more in the long run
I have never had such bad service from an insurance company, as I did when I used Admiral. I my car insurance with them, and had taken the policy out in August, I had phone them to take out cover and given them most of the details over the phone. They sent me the forms, which I signed and returned in the usual manner. I had checked all the details and everything seemed fine, I also sent my payment of course and a copy of driving licence. These were all returned to Admiral in their own pre paid envelope. Everything went fine, I had been told I had cover so away I went, and thought nothing more of it. However about 2 months later I got a very rude abrupt phone call demanding that I send them a copy of my driving licence immediately because ‘I had never supplied it’. I thought that this was pretty poor service, but shrugging my shoulders, I photocopied my licence and sent it through to them. Again a few weeks later I got another call asking for my licence again. Now this time I was alarmed so I arranged to fax it to them and I also rang the person to confirm it was there, which they said it was. I then went about my life assuming that everything was fine, until I received a cheque about 2 months later, with the outstanding balance of my policy returned and my policy had been cancelled by Admiral because they could not confirm that I had a valid driving licence. That was not only annoying but had also put me in a difficult position with respect to the legality of me driving around. God forbid what would have happened if I had had an accident. Obviously I contacted their customer services who were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. They said the fault rested all on my shoulders, and they denied that the person who I sent the fax to had ever received it. They claimed that they had sent me seven letters requesting the licence. As I had never received any letters I was reasonably sure that nothing was my fault. They
just stuck to their guns and refused to budge. The policy had been cheap in the first place, but it has become apparent where these savings are being generated. They promise lots when they try to attract your custom, but then leaving a customer high and dry without insurance is unacceptable. I can only advise that you never go near this company, if this is an indication about how competent their admin departments are then just imagine how good the service would have been if you had to make a claim through them.

- 14/05/01 I'm horrified by this. Admiral have always been fantastic in my three years with them ESPECIALLY the customer service!! From my experience I'd say you've been really unlucky but it only takes that once doesn't it? :( |
