Advantages: Cheap on the face of it, Efficient

Disadvantages: Limited cover could leave you under-insured, Cars with extras expensive to insure

Watch out for their `spare parts clause? (tucked at the back of the policy document on page 26, item 11.) This clause says that in the event of a claim they will not payout for your optional extras!

What this means in real terms is that if your car has any optional extras fitted like alloy wheels, uprated sound system, body kit or even air-conditioning and they are not standard items on your model, they are not be insured. If somebody nicks your alloys, they will only be replaced with standard wheels.

Furthermore, if you car is bristling with extras, it will push up the cost of your premium because they say it is more attractive to thieves.

I bought my dream car in March 2003. Ten days later, somebody pulled out of a side turning in front of me and wrote it off. Even though the other party admitted liability and I produced a receipt showing the price I had paid just a few days before, Admiral tried to reduced my claim by £2,000 because the wheels and stereo were not `standard fittings?.
