Advantages: Good service, Good cover, Great price

Disadvantages: Not for under-23s

Just over two years ago, I needed my first car insurance, and so began the annual ritual of gathering quotes. Even living out in the Styx and driving a tortoise-like Micra I was expecting to be stung.
Luckily for me, after phoning around, I happened on the Axa Direct number. I was only just inside the minimum age bracket (I think its still 23+), but they beat the other quotes hands down.
Fast-forward two years, and I've become more insurable. But to add to the confusion I was changing cars soon after the renewal date, and so needed quotes for the new motor. Norwich Union (who I insured with last year) quoted over £700 for the Yaris T-sport, and my best quotes were around £550. Axa's Direct website quoted an impressive £515, but better was to come.
The friendly and helpful call-staff coped with the confusing changes well, and the cover itself is also impressive. Despite the cut price, there are all the niceties of Legal protection, a low Excess of £125 and Courtesy car. Fingers crossed I won't have any more contact with Axa until renewal, but so far its been great service at an unbeatable price.
Provided you are over 22, I'd highly recommend including Axa in your round of quotes.
