The premiums keep rising and rising (AXA Direct)

Advantages: Good no claims protection but others are starting to offer the same for less

Disadvantages: Pay dearly at renewal time

I was with AXA for about 5 years and had amassed 9 years No Claims Bonus with them. I had the NCB protected in such a way that it didn't matter how many accidents I had in what period, I wouldn't lose it. For this reason, although I always looked around at each renewal I never did anything about it because no other company could offer such a guarantee.

Anyway, last renewal I received the renewal notice and the premium had once again risen, this time by about £100. I decided to look around more seriously and found a quote for nearly £300 cheaper (icluding the same NCB protection). Just out of interest I got a quote off the AXA website and this was £150 cheaper than my original renewal amount. This got me mad!!

I rang AXA, who explained that it was much cheaper for them to sell insurance over the internet and that they could pass the saving onto the customer. I pointed out that surely it was much cheaper for a loyal customer that had made no claims to renew a policy with them, and then told them to get stuffed!!!
