Advantages: done everything for you, helped with paperwork, good solicitor sorting it out

Disadvantages: to have to use them in the first place, dont know if they are good till something bad happens

You dont know how good or bad your motor car insurance is until you need to make a claim. It is then that you will be able to say if you have good or bad insurance cover.

My daughter had a car accident. A van with workmen in overtook a lorry on a bend early one morning thinking there were no other cars around and went headon into her car. She was hurt but not as bad as she could have been. There was no doubt about who was to blame and no one argued this fact - in fact the driver, although he should not have really, did phone me to see how she was.

She had to have 9 weeks off work and her car was a write off.

The insurance company dealt with it all. Got the solicitors working for her. The nice part was because she was under 25 she had £300 excess and had to pay that first. She did not have it but the solicitors sorted it out and then took it out of her final payment.

This of course took over one year but she was kept informed all the way what was going on and what was about to happen.

So there are some good insurance firms out there and they are not all bad when it comes to paying out the cash when misfortune happens.

It is chance that you get a good insurance company, my daughter happened to choose the right one.
