Advantages: Very efficient, good web-site, phone support very professional

Disadvantages: Didn't get a free nodding dog :)

This review is just about the setting up of home insurance with Churchill (www.churchill.com).

As I'm moving soon, I decided to phone around a few insurance companies to get the best deal on home insurance. I decided to get the phone numbers on-line, but when I went to the Churchill Insurance web-site there was an easy to fill out form with quotes available immediately on-line which some of the other insurers didn't have.

The process was very smooth, the questions were easy to understand and the results were fast to process. Although I am aware that there is no reason for web-sites to be clear and concise, it is always reassuring when you find one that is.

I did have a query about one particular question and so rang them up, and they were able to answer the question immediately and also offered help guiding me through the rest of the form. The service was very impressive and there was only one brief layer of automation to go through to speak to an operator about my application. There's nothing worse than pressing about 6 buttons on your telephone keypad to get to an operator, especially when you probably got the same operator regardless of what you pressed!

There were a range of options available, such as choosing how much your insurance quote would be depending on what level of insurance excess you are willing to pay. I found it much easier to do this on-line than over the phone, as I had decided how much I was going to pay, and found that by shuffling the answers around I got the best package for me. So for my money I got accident cover, a relatively low excess and the otherwise same coverage I currently have, but at a lower price.

I was pleased to note that a debit card wasn't required to pay an initial fee, just the direct debit details, ie, my bank account and sort-code. It did occur to me that this was possibly a security risk, as I can find those details out from anyone who writes a cheque, but it was by far the most convenient way for me, so I was pleased to have this option.

The web-site promised to e-mail a copy of the quotation, which indeed arrived just a few seconds after. The web-site also automatically set me up with an account so that I could see a copy of the policy if I returned to the site.

Overall, the whole process went very smoothly. I know that this should be expected, but from the start to finish I found the process easy and the phone call I had to make half-way through the form was dealt with very professionally.

I'm hoping that I won't have to do a review on the claims process as I'm hoping not to need a claim.

Summary: Worth a try if you need a home insurance quote

As it's only part of the insurance process I can't rate above U but what you have is incredibly helpful - that's the problem with the insurance category though - the most useful reviews are the onew we all hope we can't write! Thanks
