Advantages: Tiny bit cheaper than most, but you get little service for the money.

Disadvantages: Rip-off policy cancellation charge. Between slow and no certificate delivery.

Churchill started out great for me in 2000, but over the past few years it has become increasingly difficult to obtain an insurance certificate from them at anything other than policy renewal time. A couple of years ago I needed a duplicate certificate. "We charge £10 for a new certificates now to discourage people from losing them" What?.... "But I'll put yours through for free". Spiffy! I thought. Actually not so spiffy. It never came. I ended up being lucky enough to find the original.

Just recenly I had to change cars mid-policy and my new car was untaxed. I was sent my certificate (2nd class). Never came. I was sent another, 1st class. It didn't come either, so I cancelled my policy so I could re-insure with a company that actually sent insurance certificates. "We'll be taking £47.10 in the next few days" the Churchill cancellation guy said. "Why?" "Your policy has a cancellation fee." Of course it does!

I re-insured with Prudential. They turn out to be underwritten by Churchill! Unbelievable....

Summary: Avoid. Used to be good. Aren't anymore.
