Advantages: cheap policies, very good services

Disadvantages: no online quotes at the moment

Whether it is time to renew an existing policy or thew purchase of a new vehicle requires a new policy, in the very competitive insurance market it is always a good idea to do a fair bit of shopping around.

In the past year I had three opportunities to shop around for motor insurance. On all occasions I started by looking up websites of the vrious companies and filling online forms to get quotes both from individual companies and from services that request quotes with a number of insurers. The questions on those forms are more or less standard, with minor variations, but the quotes that came back ranged from £300 to over a £1000!

Bcause of this huge variation and as we have our home contents insurance with CIS I also wanted a quote from them, but unfortunately they do not have an online quote service. However, they do have an 0800 number with immediate quote. On all three occasions, their quotes were far better than anyone elses, and this includes the various "direct" and "online only" companies who are supposed to have low overheads and cheap premuims.

Last September we had the misfortune of having our beloved Vauxhall Astra stolen. After going to the police, we rang the claims office at CIS. The service was quick and efficient and we only needed to give some details by phone and send back the relevant documentation. Our car was found in a bad condition and CIS had it towed to our mechanic, then sent their people to have a look at it and when we all agreed it was not worth repairing, we filled out the necessary form and ogt the insurance money withing a couple of weeks. All with as little hassle as possible and quite quickly.

CIS are not perfect of course. Some things cannot be done over thep hone or by post but the agent will come to your house and our agent is very flexible with his hours and is always willing to try and fit in ur crazy schedules. On a couple of occasions we had to visit their offices but
even there the service is friendly and fre of hassle.

CIS offer a grange of services including insurance, savings and now they also had roadside rescue.

I'm sorry to read about your experience with you car, but CIS seemed to do an outstanding job. I will be contacting them seeing as I have had a bad expereince with Direct Line.

When I was checking around at the start of April, their site www.cis.co.uk did have online motor quotes. They were very competitive too, although I eventually decided on a policy with more extras from Axa direct.
