Advantages: It's Cheap!
Disadvantages: Its cheap for a reason
Money supermarket was how I come to deciding on using Diamond as my car insurer as they were the cheapest - excellent. Called them up and took the policy out then two months later it all went wrong.
Got a call after two months - a curtisy call making sure I was happy with my policy and to double check all my contact details blah blah blah. I thought that was very nice of them as everything was fine.
Two days later and I get another call from a very stroppy call centre operator from Diamond stating I hadn't paid my premium for two months. I was taken aback by this and apologised as I didnt know as it just hadn't clicked when it hadn't appeared on my bank statement. She said as they had contacted me twice and this was the third time, she wanted me to pay the two months premium but would have to cancel the policy for breach of contract and would have to pay another £50 (!) for the cancellation of same.
I told them they hadn't contacted me and they stated they sent to letters (which I never received). I said about the friendly call from them the week before and she just practically ignored me. I agreed to pay the two months premium but said I would not pay the cancellation as yes, I had breached the contract but they did not contact me by phone except a week before to say everything was fine (if the friendly guy had told me what was wrong and made me pay my premium then - I would not have been forced to cancel my policy). Therefore I would not pay the cancellation charge. But would happily pay the premium. The girl was extremely rude to me and refused to let me speak to a senior colleague. I said I will call back and speak to someone else.
I did and spoke to a senior person who agreed with me. I happily paid my premium and they cancelled the premium but did not charge me. Although this was the only pleasant part of this transaction, I would totally unhappy not only because of the situation but also because of the rudeness of the staff.
I then went on to buy Elephant insurance later that day and am still with them!
Summary: Rude staff, lack of knowledge

- 02/08/08 Hi gem
DID you know that Diamond, Elephant,Admiral and Bell car insurance are all the same company. All three of them are owned by the same person they are in the same building in Cardiff. And whats more the sales, claims and customer service teams are the same!! They just change the first part of sentence("Thank you for calling Diamond/Admiral/Elephant etc")
Its a business strategy that works because like what happened in your case if a customer is'nt happy with one of their brands there is a very high possibility that just move the the next brand.
Cheers

- 10/02/08 I must confess I'd have taken this further - if they hadn't contacted you to let you know that there had been a problem they were putting you in a position where it could be argued that you were driving without insurance. Whilst I always check my bank statements I don't think I could spot if a payment was "missing". |
