When i first passed my test diamond were the only women only insurance company i had heard of, i phoned them after seeing a advert on tv for there insurance.
The advert they use says that they are the cheapest around for womend drivers and specialise in young drivers aswell, me being young and female thought they were my best option so took my policy out with them.
They charged me £1200 for my first years insurance which was cheaper than other companys we had tried.
As my first years insurance came to an end i began searching for new quotes as diamond had sent me there quote for next year through the post £435 i spoke to a broker called express insurance group who got me my insurance for just £320 so i accepted there quote and thought nothing more of it untill i noticed that the direct debits to diamond were still coming out of my bank account, when i phoned to find out why they told me that i hadnt canceled my policy with them.
I didnt know i had to cancel my policy as i never renewed it with them. No where on any paper work does it state that they will automatically renew your policy if it hasnt been canceled.
I asked to cancel the policy and was told i couldnt do so as there was a payment out standing and that i needed to pay untill the end of the month before they would cancel the policy.
I payed the months insurance and then phoned back on the date they told me to to cancel only to be told it was too close to the next direct debit coming out of my account for me to cancel it now as they had already applyed for the funds.
This direct debit they were taking was for the same month as the one i had just payed for by debit card so they got paid twice.
I phoned abbey and had them stop any more direct debits coming out of my account so they couldnt take any more money for an insurance i never wanted.
After this i recieved a letter from diamond to tell me i had missed a payment. I knew this but just ignored them, the next letter from them was threatening that they would cancel my insurance if i didnt pay imediatley, great i thought they are eventually going to cancel the policy i never set up in the first place.
It took 3 more months and i lost count of how many letters before they eventually canceled the policy and i even ended up paying for the last 3 months as they sent it to a debt collector.
I wouldnt recomend using diamond to anyone, they just are not worth the hastle.
If it is this much hastle getting a streight forward years insurance without getting conned into things i didnt sign up for i dred to think what would have happened if i had had to make a claim with them.
Summary: not even worth a star

Amanda2114 - 11.04.08 It is standard practise with insurance companies that unless you call and cancel they automatically renew the policy - something you come to realise after a few years of car insurance.
Sorry to hear you had these problems. |
