Advantages: very competitive
Disadvantages: none yet
It's that time of year again, car insurance due, MOT next month. So instead of merely staying with my current company I decided to have a butchers on the net to see if I could save myself a few quid.
Finding quotes on the net is as easy as pie, just type car insurance into Google and they are virtually all there for the clicking. Norwich Union, Admiral, Privilege, Direst Line, Cornhill, Churchill. Once on the site you simply enter all the relevant details and hey presto there is your quote. it probably takes about 5 mins on average to fill in the information.
Direct line was the last company I tried and it turned out to be far cheaper than any of the rest. The website address is www.directline.com. The site is laid out quite well with the distinctive red phone very visible. near the middle of the screen is the car quote button just click on it and your in business.
You will of course need all your vehicle and personal details available and ready to type in.
The difference in quotes between companies is absolutely incredible. Some were offering a pretty average policy for hundreds above other quotes. So when I got to Direct Line and they were hundreds lower I thought I'd better check out the policy they were offering.

Yep everything I needed and £259 cheaper. 10% discount when bought online. You can choose to pay all or have monthly direct debits. This part wasn't too clear as I was left with the impression that if I paid in full there would be a further discount. This did not turn out to be the case. If you choose the direct debit method of paying a deposit is required, and then 10 equal payments to make up the balance. This has the advantage of leaving you with 2 free months at the end of the year.
It would seem that shopping around is definitely the way to go, I stopped when I reached Direct Line because I was very very happy with the quote I got. he service is very god to quick and efficient. I hope when your insurance is due and you go shopping you get as good if not better deal than I did. Check it out and don't get ripped off by the other insurers.
Summary: I got a good deal

belfin - 24.03.06 I had a good quote from this lot a couple of years ago but when they sent the schedule I found they hadn't typed in the correct details of alarms etc and this had made my quote lower. When I phoned to correct it the total extra came to about £70 more so I wasn't too pleased with them. If I hadn't being paying proper attention and anything had happened for me to make a claim I wouldn't have been covered. At least online you type in your own details though but I found AA to be cheapest last year. Belinda |
