very bad claim handling - avoid Directline like plague (Direct Line)

Advantages: cheap, but not worth it

Disadvantages: slow, mean

someone broke into my car to steal the radio 2 months ago and my car hasn't been fixed yet. Directline sent me to a very dodgy garage where all the staff look like they've escaped prison. they are slow, rude and they have their lunches in my car and took all the petrol off it.
Beware also, DirectLine is closed on bank holidays. My car as broken on a Saturday and I had to wait until Tuesd to get some assistance.
They also do this annoying thing to send you to one place to fix the glass damage, to another place to fix the radio and to a third place to fix the dent, etc....
Check first if they accept for you to go to your usual car dealer/garage.

A cheap insurance is not always a good bet.
don't take into consideration reviews/ratings where the user hasn't had to deal with a claim.

Summary: avoid

I don't rate any insurance company! It would have been really good if you couyld have told us a bit about direct line-how much the insurance cost and so on. Ann

I would want to read about the application process and the quality of the product rather than just the fact that you had a bad claims experience although obviousley this is important on its own in the context of the number of claims they handle it does not helpme much as a consumer.
