I have nearly everything insured with Direct Line, both our cars, our house and our life insurance. We also have Direct Line breakdown cover and home protection (if your boiler breaks down etc). They also provide a number of other products such as holiday insurance, pet insurance, loans and mortgages.
We have been with Direct Line Car Insurance for a total of 6 years. Their car insurance is very competitive and we have always found them to be the cheapest and the best for service. I really like the fact that I am only a second driver and I have 2 years no claims! I think they are the only insurance company that do this and I think this is the main reason (among others) for taking out car insurance with them.

Direct Line always offer good quotes and I think this is down to the fact that they are very careful with who they insure, for example they won't insure anyone under 21 with a modified car, therefore as they mainly try to only insure careful drivers, their prices are often very competitive.
They offer benefits with their motor insurance, for example they give you a discount for insuring a second car with them and they cover you if you're hit by an uninsured driver (and your no claims is not affected!).

They are extremely good at dealing with claims, when we had a crash a couple of years ago they couldn't have been more helpful and the case was resolved very quickly with very little fuss. Throughout the claims process they were very good at keeping us informed with a letter or phone call each week letting us know of any updates. Even though it was found to be joint responsibility we were worried that our premium was going to go up by a lot, but much to our surprise and delight it hardly went up at all.
We also have Direct Line Breakdown Cover (similar to the RAC and AA etc), when you breakdown, have a flat tyre etc, you just phone the number on the membership card that they give you and they arrange for someone to come out to help you asap. They don't have their own vehicles and mechanics but they use local approved garages, so they phone the garage that you're nearest to. I have called them a couple of times and each time they have been very quick in coming out and very helpful. In addition they offer quite a good discount for taking out rescue when you have your car insured with them!

I think they are outstanding, their customer service is second to none. When you call them you get put straight through to UK call centres and they are always friendly and very helpful. I wouldn't dream of changing to another company as I can't imagine anyone doing a better job.

I think they are great too, had one car with them for 14 years...and have house and life with them now, also had travel in the past.
